There are plenty of quirky coffee shops in London, but this might be the only one where you sip a flat white inside a former Victorian urinal.
Attendant Coffee Roasters, located at 27A Foley Street in Fitzrovia, has transformed a decommissioned underground toilet into one of the city’s most unusual—and most talked-about—places to grab a coffee.
Visitors enter through the original wrought iron railings and descend a narrow staircase into a compact, tiled space where polished porcelain urinals have been reimagined as seating booths.
The design blends historical detail with modern comfort.
Stools are tucked into each former urinal bay for a truly one-of-a-kind coffee experience.
The concept has turned Attendant into a social media sensation, particularly on TikTok.
Videos under hashtags like #theattendantfitzrovia and #attendantcoffee regularly feature the descent down the stairs, the distinctive urinal seating, and, of course, the coffee itself.
For those with a taste for interiors as strong as their espresso, the original green-and-white tiles and overhead cisterns remain intact, offering plenty of nostalgia alongside the novelty.
But it’s not just the setting that’s generating buzz.
Customers often call it “great coffee” and “one of the best flat whites in London,” crediting the venue with serving well-crafted espresso that goes beyond the gimmick.
The Fitzrovia café serves a daytime menu of breakfast, brunch, and lunch.
Dishes include avocado toast, kimchi or grilled cheese-style sandwiches, and baked goods such as muffins and cakes.
Standouts mentioned by visitors include the chocolate banana cake and egg-topped muffins.
Even so, most agree the main attraction is the coffee and the atmosphere.
The only drawback?
Space.
The café is “tiny,” with reviews describing it as “cramped at peak times” and “not ideal for big groups.”
Queues are common during the brunch rush.
Yet the same reviews consistently call it “cozy” and “inviting.”
Visitors routinely praise the friendly staff and the quirky setting as more than enough reason to wait for a seat.
The intimate atmosphere is part of the charm.
TikTok videos often capture the gentle clatter of cups, snippets of conversation, and the close confines of the booths, adding to the sense of being in on a very London secret.
The tourism account told viewers: “If you want a truly unique experience when in London, why not venture to The Attendant in Fitzrovia?”
On its website, Visit London describes the spot as a “quirky café in a former Victorian toilet” and lists it alongside attractions such as theatres and museums.
It offers a memorable 10-second hook (“I had coffee in a Victorian toilet”), a visually striking interior, and coffee good enough to keep people coming back long after the novelty wears off.
What began as a creative example of adaptive reuse has become a fixture of the city’s online folklore.
